Bladder trigone
Trigonum vesicae
UrinaryOrgansPelvis
- What it is
- Smooth triangular area of the bladder base whose corners are the two ureteric orifices and the internal urethral orifice; its lining is fixed to the muscle beneath, so it never forms folds.
- Function
- Funnels urine toward the urethra; the interureteric ridge between its upper corners guides the cystoscopist to the ureteric orifices.
- Size
- Each side about 2.5–3 cm.
- Clinical note
- It develops from the absorbed ends of the mesonephric ducts and is a common site of infection and of bladder tumours.
