- What it is
- Frontal belly of the occipitofrontalis: a thin quadrilateral sheet over the forehead that arises from the galea aponeurotica (epicranial aponeurosis) and inserts into the skin of the eyebrow, blending with orbicularis oculi. It has no bony attachment.
- Function
- Raises the eyebrows and wrinkles the forehead horizontally.
- Size
- About 6 cm tall and 5 cm wide per side, 1–2 mm thick.
- Clinical note
- Supplied by the temporal branch of the facial nerve: in Bell's palsy the forehead cannot be wrinkled on that side, whereas it is spared in a stroke.
