- What it is
- A flat strap muscle arising from the common tendinous ring at the orbit apex and running forward along the orbital wall to insert by a thin, broad, white tendon on the sclera in front of the equator.
- Function
- Rotates the eye inward (adduction), towards the nose.
- Size
- The largest and strongest rectus, ~40 mm long; its tendon inserts ~5.5 mm from the limbus.
- Clinical note
- Supplied by the oculomotor nerve (CN III); weakness causes an outward-drifting eye. Converging both medial recti lets us look at near objects.
