What it is
A short, wide vein running from the right renal hilum directly into the side of the inferior vena cava.
Function
Drains the right kidney.
Size
~2.5 cm long, ~1 cm diameter.
Clinical note
Its shortness is why surgeons prefer the left kidney for living-donor transplantation.
