- What it is
- Superficial medial hamstring with a fleshy upper half and a long cord-like tendon. It arises from the ischial tuberosity with the biceps long head and inserts on the upper medial tibia (pes anserinus) behind gracilis.
- Function
- Extends the hip, flexes the knee and medially rotates the flexed knee.
- Size
- About 45 cm long including a tendon of roughly 20 cm.
- Clinical note
- Its tendon (often with gracilis) is the commonest graft used to reconstruct a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
