- What it is
- The long, ribbon-like tendon of plantaris running down between gastrocnemius and soleus, along the medial edge of the calcaneal tendon, to the posterior calcaneus.
- Function
- Transmits the small plantaris force to the heel.
- Size
- About 30 cm long, 2-3 mm wide.
- Clinical note
- A sudden "snap" felt in the calf was once blamed on plantaris rupture; ultrasound shows most such injuries are gastrocnemius tears.
