Shown on the male body.
- What it is
- Lobulated sac behind the bladder base, lateral to the ampulla of the vas deferens; it is really a single tube about 15 cm long folded on itself. Its duct joins the vas to form the ejaculatory duct.
- Function
- Secretes 60–70% of the semen volume: a thick, alkaline, fructose-rich fluid that fuels sperm.
- Size
- About 5 cm long and 1–2 cm wide.
- Clinical note
- Its secretion contains semenogelin, which makes semen clot briefly after ejaculation.
