Shown on the male body.
- What it is
- Thick-walled muscular duct that continues from the tail of the epididymis, climbs in the spermatic cord, passes through the inguinal canal, hooks over the ureter and widens into the ampulla behind the bladder.
- Function
- Propels sperm toward the ejaculatory duct by powerful peristalsis during ejaculation.
- Size
- About 30–45 cm long and 2–3 mm thick, with a narrow lumen.
- Clinical note
- It is the cord cut and tied in a vasectomy; it feels like a firm string in the upper scrotum.
