Right coronary artery
Arteria coronaria dextra
CardiovascularOrgansThorax
- What it is
- Arises from the right (anterior) aortic sinus, runs forward between the right auricle and the pulmonary trunk, then round the right atrioventricular groove to the back of the heart, where it usually gives the posterior interventricular (posterior descending) artery.
- Function
- Supplies the right atrium and ventricle, the back third of the septum, and in most people the SA and AV nodes.
- Size
- About 3–4 mm wide at its origin; acute marginal branch along the lower right border.
- Clinical note
- The heart is "right-dominant" in ~70–80% of people (the RCA gives the posterior descending artery); RCA occlusion typically causes an inferior infarct and slow heart rhythms.
